The advanced technology is not always a guarantee of protection against cyber attacks enemy. The possibility of Ukraine to switch to manual control power systems allowed to save the situation as a result of cyber attacks by Russia.

This was during a discussion on cyber threats within Yevopeyskoho Cybersecurity Forum in Krakow (CYBERSEC) the representative of NATO Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges Jamie Shea, NATO, informs "Zeke ".

He noted that the issue of cyber attacks by Russia on " Prykarpattyaoblenergo " in December last year.

Other panelists agreed that sometimes the presence of obsolete equipment is not a disadvantage, but an advantage even in light of the opponent using new technologies.

As reported, on December 23, 2015 there was the world's first confirmed attack aimed at disabling power: Russian attacker could successfully attack computer control system in the control room " Prykarpattyaoblenergo " . Then it was off about 30 substations, about 230 thousand people remained without electricity for six hours. The attack took place using a Trojan BlackEnergy.
